This policy explains the artificial intelligence (AI) features in AVB RaceLabs. It forms part of our Terms of Service and should be read with our Privacy Policy.
1. Our approach
- The maths comes first. Tyre, gearing, setup, grip and ballast numbers are worked out by our own engineering calculations, not by AI. The AI explains those numbers and answers questions about them. It is instructed not to invent its own figures or override the calculations.
- AI is always labelled. AI answers and insights are marked as AI in the apps and the portal.
- You stay in control. AI output is guidance to help your decisions. It is never an instruction, and a person, you or your mechanic, decides what happens to the kart.
- No AI training on your data. We do not use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider does not use it to train theirs.
2. The AI features
The first time you use an AI feature, the app asks your permission to send that feature's data, described below, to our AI provider. You can withdraw permission at any time in the app's settings; the calculations and Pit Kit keep working without it.
| Feature | What it does | What it uses |
|---|---|---|
| AI Race Engineer | Answers your karting questions about a session in a chat. | Your question and the session's engineering data: track, weather, tyres, gearing, grip, setup, ballast, predictions, your driver weight, experience level and class, and any session feedback notes you have written. |
| AI insights | Short explanations on engineering cards (tyres, gearing, grip, ballast, setup and weather). | That card's data for the session, your experience level so the explanation suits you, and, where relevant, your driver weight and height and any feedback notes you wrote for the session. |
| AI Tyre Condition reader | Reads photos of a tyre for signs of wear and compound health. | Up to 8 photos you take of the tyre, plus the tyre details and readings you enter (such as compound, heat cycles, pressures, hardness and wear depths). |
We do not send your name or email address to the AI model as part of a request.
3. Limits of AI
AI can be wrong. It can misread data, misunderstand a question, miss something important or state something confidently that is not true. In particular:
- The AI Tyre Condition reader estimates; it does not certify. It can suggest what it sees and recommend a manual review, but it cannot tell you a tyre is safe, and it never replaces checking the tyre yourself. Grip and remaining life are estimates shown as ranges.
- AI does not know everything about your kart. It only knows what is in the app, and that may be incomplete or out of date.
- AI is not a substitute for the rules. Always check your class regulations, tyre rules and scrutineering requirements yourself.
Check any AI answer before you act on it, especially anything affecting safety, legality or eligibility. See our Disclaimer.
4. Guardrails
- Karting only. The AI Race Engineer answers karting and motorsport engineering questions. Other topics, such as medical, legal, financial or political questions, are declined.
- Safety first. The AI is instructed never to give advice it considers harmful, and never to contradict the engineering calculations.
- Checked output. For the Tyre Condition reader, our servers check the AI's answer against fixed categories and ranges before showing it, and always include a reminder that grip cannot be judged from photos alone.
- Content filtering. Our AI provider applies its own safety filters to requests and answers.
- Fair use. AI features are included with Pro with AI and the AI top-up. The AI Race Engineer allows up to 150 questions in any 24 hours, other AI features have their own limits, and short-term limits protect the service from misuse.
- Fallbacks. If an AI feature is unavailable, the app shows our calculated results without the AI explanation, clearly marked.
5. Who provides the AI
Our AI features run on a large language model service provided by an established enterprise cloud provider, under a business agreement that:
- prohibits the provider from using our customers' questions, photos or answers to train its models;
- requires it to keep that data confidential and secure, and to process it only to provide the service to us.
To keep the service fast and available, AI requests may be processed in data centres outside the UK. Those transfers are protected by the safeguards described in our Privacy Policy.
We may change the AI provider or models we use, for example to newer versions. We test changes before release, and the guardrails in this policy continue to apply.
6. What we keep, and for how long
- Your AI Race Engineer conversations are saved to your account so you can see them again. They are kept while your account is open, unless you clear them sooner, and are deleted with the rest of your account within the timescales in section 8 of our Privacy Policy.
- Tyre photos are stored with the tyre inspection they belong to. Deleting the inspection deletes its photos, and they are deleted with the rest of your account within the timescales in section 8 of our Privacy Policy.
- AI request records, used for security, fair-use limits, fixing faults and managing costs, are kept for up to 90 days and then deleted, or earlier with the rest of your account within the timescales in section 8 of our Privacy Policy.
- Technical logs are kept for up to 30 days.
Nobody at AVB RaceLabs reads your conversations or photos as a matter of routine. Authorised staff may look at specific records when you ask us to, to fix a fault, to investigate misuse, or where the law requires it.
7. Your choices
- AI features are optional. All engineering calculations and Pit Kit tools work without them.
- You can clear AI conversations, delete tyre inspections, or delete your whole account, at any time.
- You can report any AI answer, insight or tyre reading that is wrong, unsafe or offensive using the Report option next to it in the app or portal, or through the contact form (choose AI features). We review every report. Reports help us improve our guardrails; they are not used to train a model on your data.
- Your data protection rights are set out in our Privacy Policy.
8. Automated decisions
The AI features do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Plan limits and AI allowances are set by your plan, not by AI.
