You run a karting team, or a family-and-friends outfit that shares an awning most weekends. You want one place for the roster, the race calendar and the money, and a tag your drivers can search for. This guide covers setting up the team, choosing a team plan, and getting your drivers in.
Before you start
- An AVB RaceLabs account. Founding a team works on any personal plan.
- A team name and a tag you are happy to keep. The team tag is permanent.
- Each driver needs their own AVB RaceLabs account so they can join.
- You can found one team. You can still join other teams as a driver.
Create the team in the app
- On the Home tab, tap the person icon at the top to open Profile.
- Tap Start a team ("Found a team and invite your drivers"). You can also open the MY TEAM card on Home and tap Start a team under Or start your own.
- Enter a Team name of 2 to 60 characters.
- Enter a Team tag. Use lower-case letters, numbers and underscores, 3 to 20 characters. The app checks it as you type and shows " is available." or " is already taken."
- Tap Create team.
Good to know: Team tags share the same pool as personal @handles, so your tag must not match anyone's user tag. Once the team is created the tag cannot be changed, so settle it before you tap Create team.
Choose a team plan, or skip it
Straight after creating the team you see Choose your team plan. There are three bands, all billed monthly:
- Crew: up to 5 drivers
- Team: up to 15 drivers
- Works: unlimited drivers
All three have the same features. Bands count members with the Driver role only. You as manager, and anyone with the Parent role, are free.
- Tap Choose on the band that fits your roster, or tap Skip for now.
- You can come back later from My Team > Team plan > Manage team plan.
An unpaid team stays fully usable. With an active team plan, you as manager also get Premium-level access to the engineering tools and the web portal. If your roster grows past the band's limit, nobody is blocked: you step up to the next band at renewal.
Back on Profile, the tile now reads Manage my team.
Bring your drivers in
There are two ways. Use whichever suits each driver.
Drivers ask to join
- Give your drivers the team tag.
- They search for it on the MY TEAM card, tap Find, then Request to join. Drivers can also enter it while setting up the app.
- On My Team, open Join requests and tap Approve or Decline for each one. When you approve, you see " joined the team."
You invite them from the web portal
- Sign in to the web portal and open Team > Overview in the sidebar.
- In Invite a driver, enter the Driver tag (their @handle) and an optional note.
- Click Send invite.
- The driver opens MY TEAM in the app, finds you under Invitations and taps Accept.
Tip: Collect every driver's user tag before race day. Inviting by tag from home is quicker than approving requests one by one in the paddock.
Reading your roster
Your Roster in the app shows each member's name and @tag. Manager and Parent rows carry a pill, and members who have gone show their status instead. Below it you will see "Roles, removals and team settings are managed on the web portal."
On the web portal, Team > Overview shows the full roster with columns for Member, Tag, Role, Mechanic, Status and Joined. The roster keeps everyone's history. Status reads Active, Left or Removed.
Do it on the web portal
You can also start the team on the web. Open Profile (the header icon or Setups in the sidebar) and click Start a team. The web form asks for the same Team name and Team tag, plus:
- Currency for your invoices.
- Labour rate per hour (optional), used as the default for workshop labour.
Once you are a manager, the sidebar shows a Team group with Overview, Karts & rental, Programme, Workshop, Money and Racing. If it has not appeared yet, open Profile and click Manage my team.
A few rules worth knowing:
- Role changes, removals and Team settings are web only.
- The last manager cannot be demoted or leave. Promote someone else first.
- Delete team is in the Danger zone. It is permanent, releases the tag, and only works once no other members remain.
- There is no separate mechanic or coach role. They join with the Driver role, which counts toward your band. Tick Can be allocated as a mechanic for them on the roster.
Good to know: Removing someone ends their membership only. The roster keeps their history, and their own profile, sessions and data stay with them.
