A young driver's mum or dad does the organising: the entries, the packing, the early starts. As manager, you want them on the roster and shown as that driver's parent, so everyone in the awning knows who to talk to. Parents are free on every team plan, so adding them never uses up a driver place.
Before you start
- The parent needs their own AVB RaceLabs account. Accounts are for 13 and over, and each person signs in with their own.
- The driver they look after must already be an active driver on the team.
- Manager: you need the web portal to set the role. Role changes are not available in the app.
Step 1: the parent joins the team
The parent joins exactly like a driver does.
- In the app, the parent opens the Home tab and taps the MY TEAM card.
- They enter the team tag in Team tag, tap Find, then Request to join.
- The manager approves it on My Team > Join requests with Approve.
Alternatively, the manager can invite the parent from the web portal: Team > Overview > Invite a driver, using the parent's user tag. The parent taps Accept under Invitations in the app.
At this point the parent appears on the roster as a Driver.
Step 2: the manager sets the Parent role
- Sign in to the web portal and open Team > Overview from the sidebar.
- Find the parent in the Roster.
- Change their Role to Parent.
- The portal asks Parent of which driver? Tick the driver, or drivers, they look after.
- Click Save.
A parent must be linked to at least one active driver on the team. If there are no drivers to link yet, add the driver first. To change the link later, use Change next to the parent's row.
Tip: Brothers or sisters racing in the same team? Tick each of them. One parent can be linked to several drivers.
Reading the roster
In the app, the roster shows the link both ways:
- The parent's row reads "Parent of " and carries a Parent pill.
- The driver's row reads "Parent: ".
The same lines appear on the web portal roster. The roster keeps history, so former members stay listed with the status Left or Removed.
Managers see "Roles, removals and team settings are managed on the web portal." under the roster in the app. That is the place to go for any role change.
What a parent link does and does not do
The link tells the team who looks after whom. It does not give the parent access to the driver's own team records.
- Invoices, workshop jobs, race entries, tyres and kit stay with the driver's own account.
- Only the driver a job is for can approve or decline its quote.
- The parent sees the team area through their own membership, like any other member.
Good to know: A parent counts as free on every band. They are not counted toward the Crew, Team or Works driver limit, and neither is the manager. Until you set the Parent role, they count as a driver.
Mechanics and coaches
There is no separate mechanic or coach role to choose. On the web portal, the roster has a Can be allocated as a mechanic option. Tick it for anyone you want to allocate on the Programme board. It is a capability, not a role: the member keeps their role, so a mechanic or coach on the Driver role still counts toward your band.
Do it on the web portal
Everything in Step 2 happens on the web portal, and you can also invite the parent from there. The rest of the team area works in the app for everyone. For the parent, that means seeing the calendar, the Team-mates list and their own team card.
Good to know: If the parent should stop being linked, change their Role back to Driver on the portal roster, or remove them. As a Driver they count toward your band again. History is never deleted.
