Your class has a minimum weight, and the scales at scrutineering don't round in your favour. Say your class minimum is 162 kg: you need to know how much lead to bolt on, roughly where to put it, and that nothing else will catch you out on the technical walk. The Ballast module and two free Pit Kit tools cover all three.
Before you start
- A Premium or Pro with AI plan for the Ballast module. The Pit Kit tools work on every plan.
- Your kart and a saved setup in your profile.
- Your driver weight kept up to date. Tap the person icon on Home, then Driver, and check Weight (kg). Weigh in full race kit.
- An active session. In the Sessions tab, tap your session under PLANNED SESSIONS.
Get the ballast recommendation
With the session active, open the Intelligence tab.
Tap Ballast. The screen is headed Ballast Recommendation.
Read the RECOMMENDATION card. The headline is either:
- Add kg ballast: you're under the minimum and need this much lead.
- Ballast not required: you're already on or over the minimum.
The pills underneath show the Class category, the Minimum weight, your Total weight, how far you are from the line (+kg over minimum, kg under minimum or At minimum) and a Confidence level.
Check STARTING PLACEMENT (AVB SUGGESTION). The Seat, Front and Rear bar suggests where to start fitting the lead. It's a starting point, not a measured weight distribution. Adjust it for how the kart handles.
Good to know: Every piece of lead must be bolted through with washers. Never cable-tie ballast. This is advice only and does not change your saved setup. How much lead you run, and where, is your decision.
Reading the result
The WEIGHT CONTEXT card shows the sum behind the answer: Driver, Kart + tyres, Existing ballast and Current total. Once you've recorded a weight on the scales, Scrutineering total appears too.
Two lines tell you how far to trust it:
- Kart weight source:
- Measured (your kart): best. You've entered the kart's real weight.
- Derived from your scrutineering weight: good. It's worked out from a scales reading you recorded.
- Class default (estimate — weigh your kart): an estimate only. Weigh your kart.
- Minimum source:
- Kart's competition class: taken from the class set on your kart.
- Your driver class: taken from your driver profile.
- AVB category estimate (unverified): a general figure for the category. Confirm the real minimum in your regulations.
Make the number more accurate
- Keep your driver weight current. Young drivers grow fast.
- After a session, enter what the scales said in Scrutineering weight (kg) in the debrief (under More details). It's driver, kart and ballast on the scales, and it lets the app work out your kart's real weight.
- On the web portal, open Setups, then KART MANAGEMENT. Enter Kart weight (kg, no driver) and set the Competition class.
Quick check with the Weight & Ballast tool (any plan)
- On Home, tap the PIT KIT card.
- Under Weight, safety & compliance, tap Weight & Ballast.
- Enter Driver weight, in kit (kg) and Kart weight (kg). Pick from Class minimum presets, or type your own Class minimum (kg).
- Read Lead to add, or Over the minimum by if you're already heavy enough.
- Tap Log today's driver weight to build a Weigh-in history, so you can see the trend over a season.
Tip: The class presets are common UK figures to get you started. Your championship regulations are the authority.
Pass the technical walk
- In the Pit Kit, under Race day & travel, tap Scrutineering Check.
- Work through the 21 checks in Safety-critical and Bodywork & compliance. They include ballast bolted through with washers, wheel nuts torqued, brakes, throttle return, chain guard, number plates and your helmet and kit.
- Watch the pill at the top. It reads NO-GO until all 14 critical checks are ticked, then GO.
- Type the Race meeting name and save. Depending on how far you got, the button reads Save — all items ticked, Save — critical items ticked or Save anyway.
It's a preparation aid. The club scrutineer's decision is always final.
For the rulebooks themselves, tap Regulations & useful links in the same section, or find it in your profile under PROFILE. Always confirm the current season's regulations with your club or governing body before an event.
Tip: Weigh driver and kart together on the official scales during practice day if they're open. Then put that figure in your debrief, so race-day advice is based on a real weight.
Do it on the web portal
- In the left sidebar, open Race Engineering > Intelligence and choose your session.
- On the engineering page, find the Ballast Recommendation tile and the Weight Compliance panel.
The portal is also the easiest place to keep your kart's weight and competition class up to date, under Setups.
