It's the week before a club round and there is a pile of part-worn slicks under the bench in the workshop. You need to know which set is still good enough to race, which is for practice, and which should go in the skip.
Before you start
- You are signed in. Tyre Condition saves to your account, unlike most Pit Kit tools.
- A durometer (Shore A), and ideally a tyre temperature gauge.
- Tyres that have cooled for at least 30 minutes, so that readings are comparable.
- The tool works on any plan. Photo analysis needs Pro with AI and AI features turned on.
- No signal? You can still check tyres. The inspection is kept as a draft and you can retry it later.
Open Tyre Condition
- On the Home tab, tap the PIT KIT card.
- Under Mechanic & maintenance, tap Tyre Condition.
- Optional, the first time: tap Register durometer at the top and enter the brand or model, the Kind (Digital or Analogue), the Calibration date and the Calibration reference.
Run a Quick check
Use this to check a tyre you have not recorded before.
- Tap Quick check. The steps are TEMPERATURE, DUROMETER, PHOTOS, ASSIGN and REVIEW.
- TEMPERATURE: enter the temperatures you have, and turn on Cooled 30 minutes if it applies.
- DUROMETER: take up to 3 readings on the centre of the tread. The screen shows the Avg and Spread.
- PHOTOS: tap Take photo or Gallery for each of the four main slots. Skip any you cannot take.
- ASSIGN: choose where the result belongs. Pick INVENTORY for a tyre you have stored, FROM TYRE SETS for a corner of a Pit Kit tyre set, or One-off check (new tyre) to create a new tyre entry.
- REVIEW: check the readings and save.
Run a detailed inspection
Use this for a full record of a tyre already in your list.
- Tap the tyre, then tap Record inspection.
- On the first step, choose Detailed. The steps are CONTEXT, DUROMETER, PHOTOS, MEASUREMENTS and REVIEW.
- CONTEXT: set the Session type, turn on Cooled 30 minutes if it applies, and add the temperatures, the Circuit, your Durometer device and any Notes.
- DUROMETER: take up to 3 readings in each zone (Inside, Centre, Outside). Outliers are flagged, never discarded.
- PHOTOS: see the table below.
- MEASUREMENTS: add the Wear-hole depth, Cold pressure, Hot pressure, Laps, any Damage and the Handling observed.
- REVIEW: save. The raw measurements are saved first, then the photos upload and the analysis runs.
If repeat readings differ by more than 3 Shore A, you see Readings vary. Tap Re-measure, or Confirm with note and say why. A reading outside 35–90 Shore A is flagged so you can check it, but you can still save it.
Tip: Measure every tyre at the same temperature and after the same rest time. A warm tyre reads softer, which can make an old set look better than it is.
Photo slots
| Slot | Needed? |
|---|---|
| Centre tread | Required |
| Inside shoulder | Required |
| Outside shoulder | Required |
| Full tread | Required |
| Wear-hole close-up | Recommended |
| Sidewall | Optional |
You can add up to 4 shots per slot.
Reading the result
You see Inspection saved when everything is stored. Saved on this device means the phone had no signal. The inspection is kept under DRAFTS & PENDING UPLOADS, ready to retry.
The tyre's page shows a CONDITION SUMMARY: scores from 0 to 100 for Physical life, Compound health, Surface health and Consistency from your measurements, with a confidence level of High, Medium or Low. These measured scores are the primary rating, and you get them on any plan.
To see one inspection in full, open the Timeline tab and tap it. Under ESTIMATED SCORES you see the same four scores, plus a suitability label such as Championship race, Club race, Practice, Wet backup, Re-inspect, Replace or Unsafe.
Without Pro with AI you see Photo analysis is part of Pro with AI. Your measurements are saved, and the photos stay on the phone.
With Pro with AI, the inspection also shows AI ANALYSIS — PHOTOS + MEASUREMENTS:
- Estimated grip and Remaining rubber as ranges, never single figures.
- Looking good and Watch points.
- Verdict pills for Would race, plus Life and Condition out of 10.
Treat the AI as a second opinion, and look at the tyre yourself before you decide.
Good to know: The AI can be wrong, especially with poor photos. Racing a tyre is your decision. If an answer looks wrong, tap Report.
Sort the pile
- On the dashboard, sort by Condition or Hardness, and use the Status and Position filters.
- Open a tyre and tap Compare, then pick the other tyres to see them side by side.
- On each tyre, tap Mark status and choose Mark as Race, Mark as Practice or Mark as Retired.
- On a tyre's page, the Trends tab shows how its hardness and scores have changed over time. Timeline lists every inspection.
If you add photos to an inspection later with Add photos, tap Re-evaluate to run the analysis again.
