Your son has just turned 15 and wants to ask the AI Race Engineer about his tyre pressures. Before you agree, you want to know what leaves the phone, who processes it, and how to switch it off again. This guide covers all three, and it takes about two minutes.
Before you start
- You are signed in to AVB RaceLabs.
- You have a signal, because the setting is saved to your account.
- Turning AI features on does not change your plan. To use the AI features you also need Pro with AI.
- If the driver is 13 to 17, read the dialog and the AI Policy together before turning AI features on.
What the AI features are
Three features use AI. All three are off until you turn them on:
- The AI Race Engineer chat, which answers questions about one session.
- AI insight cards on the engineering screens.
- The tyre photo reader in Tyre Condition, which reads wear from your photos.
Everything else in the app works without AI.
Turn AI features on in the app
- On the Home tab, tap the person icon at the top (Profile & settings).
- Scroll to PREFERENCES.
- Find AI features. The line below it reads: "Lets the AI Race Engineer, AI insight and the tyre photo reader send your data to our AI provider."
- Turn the switch on. The Turn on AI features? dialog opens.
- Read the list of what is sent (shown below), and tap Read the AI Policy if you want the full detail.
- Tap Turn on AI features to agree, or Not now to leave AI off.
You do not have to visit Profile first. If AI features are off, the same dialog appears when you use an AI feature.
What the dialog tells you
The dialog says: "To answer, AVB RaceLabs sends some of your data to an AI provider that processes it on our behalf". It lists:
- Session engineering data: track, weather, tyres, gearing and setup
- Your weight, height and experience level
- Notes you have written
- Tyre photos, when you use the tyre reader
It also says: "Your data is not used to train AI models. You can turn this off at any time in Settings."
Good to know: The portal's version of the dialog words the list slightly differently. It says Your notes and the questions you ask, because your chat questions are sent along with the session data.
Check that it worked
- In Profile, the AI features switch stays on.
- Your choice carries over between the app and the web portal. You only need to set it once.
- The AI Active pill on the SUBSCRIPTION card is about your plan, not this switch. It shows when your plan includes the AI features.
Turn AI features off
- Go to Profile & settings > PREFERENCES.
- Turn the AI features switch off. This applies straight away, and no further data is sent to the AI provider.
While AI features are off, each AI feature asks for your permission again before it runs. If you tap Not now, it shows "AI features are off. Turn them on to use this." Your sessions, setups and Pit Kit entries are not affected.
If you see "Couldn't change AI features. Check your connection and try again.", move to somewhere with a signal and try again.
Tip: You can switch AI features off before a race weekend and back on afterwards. Nothing you have already saved is lost either way.
Do it on the web portal
- Click the gear icon (Settings) in the header.
- Under AI features, click On or Off. Clicking On opens the same Turn on AI features? dialog. Click Turn on AI features to agree, or Not now to leave it off.
When AI is off on the portal, AI tiles show "AI features are off. Turn them on to see this insight." with a button to turn them on.
Reading the result
- Switch on, no Pro with AI: the AI features still do not run. The AI Race Engineer tells you it is part of Pro with AI, and tyre photos stay on the phone. The switch is your permission; the plan is what unlocks the features.
- Pro with AI, switch off: nothing is sent. Each AI feature asks for your permission before it runs.
- Both on: you can use the chat, AI insight cards and the tyre photo reader.
Good to know: AI answers can be wrong. Whatever the AI suggests, setup changes are your decision.
